Kashmir's special status cannot be restored: Ghulam Nabi

 India

Former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be returned.

Ghulam Nabi said this in a public meeting in North Kashmir's Baramulla on Sunday.  NDTV Online reported this information.

73-year-old Kashmiri leader Ghulam Nabi quit the Congress last month.  After leaving the Congress, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir announced the formation of a new party.  He held his first public meeting in Kashmir yesterday after leaving the Congress.

The BJP government at the Center revoked Jammu and Kashmir's special constitutional status (Article 370) three years ago.  Article 370 of the Indian Constitution gave greater autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir.

Ghulam Nabi blamed regional parties for "misleading" the people of Jammu and Kashmir by promising to restore Article 370.

This former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir said, 'Ghulam Nabi Azad will not mislead anyone.  I will not mislead you for votes, I will not use you for my own benefit.  Please do not raise issues that cannot be achieved.  Section 370 cannot be restored.  A two-thirds majority in Parliament is required to reinstate Article 370.

Ghulam Nabi also said that the condition of Congress is deteriorating with every election.  There is no political party in India which can get a majority in Parliament to restore Article 370.

The former Congress leader said he will form his party in Jammu and Kashmir in the next 10 days to fight against the politics of exploitation and lies.

Ghulam Nabi also said that one lakh people lost their lives in Kashmir due to the politics of exploitation.  Five lakh children have become orphans.  He came to Jammu and Kashmir to fight against exploitation and lies.

Ghulam Nabi's view on Article 370 is contrary to the Congress and most of the regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir.  These parties have signed an agreement to continue campaigning for the restoration of Article 370.  Ghulam Nabi called it another fraud.
