Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has criticized the capabilities of Russian forces in Ukraine. He made the criticism after losing control of Ezeum over the weekend. Izhyum, in Ukraine's eastern Kharkiv province, is considered an important supply hub. Al-Jazeera news.
Kadyrov is known as an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He posted an 11-minute long voice message on social media Telegram last Saturday. Kadyrov admitted that Russia's military operation is not going according to plan.
"If there is no change in the conduct of special military operations today or tomorrow, we will be forced to go to the country's leadership to explain the situation on the ground," said the Chechen leader appointed by Moscow.
"I am not a strategist like those in the Ministry of Defense," Kadyrov said, stating that Russian control must be returned to all lost areas. But it is clear, something has gone wrong. I think they will come to a decision on this.
The Chechen leader also said, 'We have people there. Warriors are specially prepared for such situations. 10,000 warriors are ready to join them. We will reach Odessa in the near future.'
The Russian military leadership is believed to have been unprepared for the counterattack by Ukrainian forces in the northeast against the invasion. In such a situation, Kadyrov criticized the Russian forces.
Russian nationalists called on Putin to make immediate changes to ensure a final victory in the Ukraine war. Earlier in the day, Moscow was forced to abandon its main base in northeastern Ukraine.
On February 24, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine. Moscow was forced to withdraw troops from the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, in March. The fall of Ezhyum was soon seen as Russia's most serious military defeat.
Moscow has been largely silent about this defeat. It doesn't explain what happened in northeastern Ukraine. This has seen pro-war commentators and Russian nationalists venting their anger on social media.
The Russian Defense Ministry released a video last Friday after the defeat became public. They said troops are being sent to Kharkiv region. The ministry said yesterday that the Russian forces hit the positions of the Ukrainian forces. Along with the use of missiles and shells, the airborne troops also took part in the attack.
