BFIU subpoenaed Wasser MD's bank account

Bangladesh Bank's Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has subpoenaed the bank account of WASA Managing Director (MD) Taksim A Khan.  This account was requested yesterday Wednesday.


 According to Bangladesh Bank sources, Taksim A Khan's bank account deposit and withdrawal information has been requested.


Earlier on August 17, the High Court wanted to know the information about the amount of salary-bonus, TADA and other benefits given to Taksim A Khan as the MD of Dhaka Wasa in the last 13 years.  The Dhaka Wasa Board Chairman has been ordered to submit all the information in the form of a report to the court within 60 days.


 Justice Md. on the preliminary hearing of a writ petition.  Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Kazi Md.  The High Court bench consisting of Izarul Haque Akand gave this order along with the rule.


Architect Mobashwer Hossain filed the writ last month on behalf of the Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) challenging the legality of paying unreasonable and high salary to Wasar MD in violation of the Ministry of Finance's Circular and Service (Salary and Benefits) Order.  A report published in Prothom Alo entitled 'Water price increased by a margin and MD's salary' and an article published under the title ""Bhikshaya Chala" Wasser MD's salary is 100,000 taka" are attached to the writ.


Dhaka WASA has increased the price of water 14 times in the last 13 years.  At the same time, the salary of Taksim A Khan, MD of the company has also been increased.


 Amidst the latest corona epidemic, the salary of Wasar MD has been increased by two and a half lakh rupees.  After this increase, his monthly salary as MD of Wasa stood at 6 lakh 25 thousand taka.  According to this, the monthly salary of Taksim A Khan has increased by 421 percent in the last 12 years.  Meanwhile, WASA authorities have confirmed that those who will be the MD of WASA after Taksim should not get this amount of salary.
