Six months have passed since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine is planning to prosecute Russian President Vladimir Putin and his top military commanders for starting this war. News from AFP.
According to the plan, a special international tribunal will be constituted. The tribunal will investigate and prosecute those responsible for Russia's alleged aggression in Ukraine.
Andriy Smirnov, deputy head of Ukraine's presidential administration, said the tribunal could be the only way to ensure swift accountability for the perpetrators of the war in Ukraine.
Andri also said that the world's memory is short. Therefore, he wants this tribunal to start working next year.
Andriy said the Ukrainian authorities knew the accused would not be present at the tribunal. But the tribunal will work to identify these people as criminals. They cannot travel to the civilized world.
Ukrainian prosecutors have so far identified nearly 600 suspects for the aggression. Among them are senior Russian military officers, politicians and commentators.
Ukrainian officials said an international agreement to create the tribunal has been drafted, ready for signature by world governments.
Andri said several countries are ready to sign the document this year.
On February 24 this year, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on the orders of President Putin.
