UEFA investigation started against a total of 20 clubs including Barca-PSG

 

UEFA has launched an investigation into Europe's top 20 clubs for breaching UEFA's Financial Compliance Policy (FFP).  Barcelona, ​​Spain;  European football's governing body has launched an investigation against clubs such as Italy's Inter Milan, Juventus, AS Roma and France's PSG.  The investigation is being conducted on the 2020-21 season.


Spanish media outlet Marca reported that several other clubs, including Barca, could face penalties for breaching financial compliance regulations.  Clubs potentially subject to punishment are PSG, Marseille, Inter Milan, AS Roma, Juventus and Barca.  Juventus and Barca are already fighting a court case with UEFA over the European Super League.  Their partner in this fight is also Real Madrid.

British newspaper The Times reported that PSG and Marseille could be fined financially.  Italian club Inter, Juventus, Roma along with Spanish club Barca may be punished more severely.  Clubs may be banned from buying players or competing during the transfer season.


PSG has breached a fundamental rule of UEFA's financial integrity policy for three years, and UEFA has given the French club three years to rectify the matter.


This is the last season under the financial consistency policy that UEFA has now in place.  New rules will be introduced in FFP from 2023.  Clubs already spend a lot of money on player salaries, transfers and agent fees.  From next year, the expenditure limit will be set based on the income of the club in these sectors.  In 2023, the clubs can spend 90 percent of the total income in these sectors.  Similarly, 80 percent can be spent in 2024 and 70 percent in 2025.

PSG has reportedly breached a fundamental rule of UEFA's financial consistency policy for three years, and UEFA has given the French club three years to rectify the matter.  According to French media Lequip, PSG has lost around 30 million euros per season in the last three years.  UEFA has ordered the club to change this situation.
