Sriram with his role "I came not to lead, but to help"

Sreedharan Sreeram was commenting on the Tamil Nadu Premier League a few days ago.  Having severed long-standing ties with Cricket Australia, the start of the new IPL season has also been delayed.  Meanwhile, BCB director and national team team director Khaled Mahmud's phone call.  Offer to work with T20 team of Bangladesh.

When Sriram came to the official press conference in Dubai today, he is the technical consultant of Bangladesh T20 team.  Even though the title of 'Principal' was not in the notebook, the role he had to play was certain.  Today, however, the former Indian cricketer made his role a little clearer.  He said, he came not to lead the party, but to help.

On August 19, BCB president Nazmul Hasan announced the appointment of Sreedharan Sreeram as the technical consultant of the national T20 team.  After that Sriram was mentioned as a technical consultant in BCB's official statement.  However, it was still not clear whether head coach Russell Domingo is going with the team to the Asia Cup or not.  In the end, it was Sriram who went with the Bangladesh national team to the Asia Cup, not Domingo.

On reaching Bangladesh on August 21, Sriram went to see Shakib Al Hasan's warm-up match at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.  From that day the media chased him but he did not open his mouth.  Finally, this former assistant coach of Cricket Australia faced the media for the first time in Dubai today.

In response to the question of how his work will be with the Bangladesh team, Shriram said, 'It is very easy.  I am clear about my role.  My role is to mobilize resources.  We have some very good skill coaches.  I have full confidence in what they do.  My job is mainly to work with the captain, the team director, and the skill coaches—bringing the three together.'

It's not about what they didn't do well, it's about what they did.  Bringing out the best in it.  My focus will be on building on those strengths in the short term, building on them.  The things we did not do well will be fixed if we continue to do the things we are doing well.

In what role will he do it, he also said separately, '(Having) my T20 experience working in Australia and the IPL to put together a strategy—so that I can utilize the resources properly.  I am not saying that I will lead the team, I am just helping.'

Sriram has arrived in Bangladesh at a time when the team is struggling in the T20 edition.  The series was also lost for the first time against Zimbabwe.  But listening to the technical consultant of the team, it seems that he does not want to keep all that in his head, 'I came with open eyes.  I have no retreat.  What you are saying (recent performance in T20 is not good) is actually a 'heard today' thing for me.  I don't see it that way.  Looking with open eyes, I want to bring new vitality to my ideas.  I want to bring the team together, I want to start anew.

In this case, Sriram considers captain Shakib to be a great strength, 'I think it is a great job to make Shakib captain.  Earlier I respected him as an opponent.  This is the first time I have actually had the opportunity to mix like that.  His approach to T20 is heartwarming to see.  He is very modern.  Our thoughts match.  His thoughts on youth are great.  Young people follow him, respect him.  He is easily accessible.  It's a unique blend—where honor is present, mixed with it at will.  This combination of captain and team is great.  I think it's very positive.'

Bangladesh's performance in T20 always comes to the fore when it comes to skill.  Batsmen can't hit power, this discussion is also old.  Although the Bangladeshi brand of cricket is talked about, it has not been seen to be translated on the field.  Sriram also spoke of a new beginning in the meantime.  Saying the old saying of relying on one's own strength, 'I have seen the statistics.  In terms of taking wickets—we are one of the best in the world in first 3 wicket taking average, we are also one of the best in the world in taking first 5 wickets.  Bangladesh has done many things right before.  It's not about what they didn't do well, it's about what they did.  Bringing out the best in it.  My focus will be on building on those strengths in the short term, building on them.  The things that we have not done well will be fixed if we continue to do the things that we are doing well.

After Cricket Australia, IPL, now Bangladesh - Sriram's journey is strange.  The former left-arm spinner, who has played eight ODIs for India, says his past experience will be useful in working for Bangladesh, "Working with different cultures—working with the Indian boys in the IPL, working in the Auji set-up—there's a good mix of East and West (I  ).  Coming to Bangladesh, I actually understand their approach to growing up and playing.  At the same time, I can bring professionalism and expectations.  I am looking forward.
