FIFA lifts ban on All India Football Federation (AIFF)

FIFA had earlier this month banned them due to third-party interference in the All India Football Federation.  Indian football in May was ruled by the country's Supreme Court to have a Committee of Administrators (CoA) in the AIFF, which was against FIFA rules.

Last Monday, the Supreme Court removed the three-member committee.  The road to lifting the ban was somewhat clear.  The FIFA Council Bureau said in a statement announcing the lifting of the ban on the AIFF that the removal of the COA committee has brought the AIFF back full control.

The current general secretary of the federation, Sunand Dhar, informed the matter in a letter to FIFA the day after the Supreme Court verdict.  He also requested to lift the ban in the letter.

With FIFA lifting the AIFF ban, the country no longer faces any hurdle in hosting the U-17 Women's World Cup.  The tournament is scheduled to be held in India from October 11 to 30.
