The farmers of different states of India have again protested in Jantarmantar in the capital Delhi to realize their old demands.  Hundreds of thousands of farmers joined the rally throughout the day from Monday morning.  Calling the rally 'Maha Panchayat', the farmer leaders said that they will decide the next program of the movement at the next meeting of the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) in Delhi on September 6.

The farmers' leaders complained that the three agricultural laws have been repealed but the government has not accepted their other demands so far.  For example, the minimum support price (MSP) of the crop has not been legislated;  The cases brought against the agitating farmers were not dropped;  The electricity bill has not been withdrawn.

The agitating farmers have given new demands in addition to the old demands, saying that Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra, who is responsible for the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, should be dismissed and arrested.  Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra is still in jail on charges related to the incident.
Various organizations of the United Kisan Morcha jointly called for this rally of the farmers.  Rakesh Tikayet, leader of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), one of Morcha's partners, was arrested on Sunday on his way to the rally.  Barricades were put up at the borders of Delhi from this morning to prevent farmers from joining the rally.  Searches are conducted on every vehicle at the border.  However, as the day progressed, the police relaxed the strictness.  The barricade was also removed.
A Delhi Police source told the media that they did not want to do anything that would create a situation like last time.  Two years ago, an intolerable situation arose around the farmers' position on the Delhi border.  Delhi Police had earlier given permission for today's rally to avoid such a situation.  Farmers also took part in the rally against rampant increase in prices of daily commodities and unemployment.  The farmers' leaders said that they will fight till the last day to get the legal validity of MSP.

In November last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi withdrew the three controversial agriculture laws, but the government has not moved to legislate MSPs for various crops.  Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar claimed that the government has not made any such promise.  But the farmers say that the government promised to consider the demand in a meeting with them.
